A lot of celebrities have contributed generous donations to the Hurricane Harvey relief effort, but Sandra Bullock went above and beyond.
The Academy Award-winning actress, who has a home in Austin, Texas, donated $1 million to the Red Cross relief effort, E! News reports.
Many recognize Bullock for her accomplishments on-screen, but her charitable work is highly understated. The “Gravity” star has been a long-time supporter of the American Red Cross and has contributed up to $5 million and counting for various relief efforts, including a $1 million donation after 9/11.

“I’m just grateful I can do it,” Bullock said in a statement with regard to her latest donation. “We have to take care of one another.”

“This is an incredible gift. We’re so thankful. It’s times like this when we do receive such an incredible amount of support. Especially during times of disaster, people see what’s happening in Texas and our hearts all go out to them,” Elizabeth Penniman, Vice President of Communications for American Red Cross national headquarters, told People Magazine. “Having someone like Sandra Bullock make this kind of commitment, it helps bring people together and open their hearts and be even more generous.”
Although the president and the first lady visited the hurricane zone on Tuesday, some celebrities still found time to criticize them. Bullock, however, realizes that natural disasters are apolitical. (RELATED: Celebrities Slam Trump And First Lady As They Lend A Hand In Texas)
